My days of bitterness have finally concluded. Months after my failed trip to secure Snap Inc.’s beloved Spectacles I can finally say that I am a proud owner of a pair of Spectacles. I guess my hours dedicated to complaining about not having a pair to my boyfriend paid off as my anniversary gift this year!
I wanted to dedicate a post to share some of my favorite aspects of the specs since I don’t know anyone else who has bought a pair. Everyone knows Facebook is putting in work to rob Snapchat for everything they’ve got, but I still have faith in my second favorite social platform and hope that Spectacles is an advantage for users to invest in. But you can decide for yourself!
“Look, mum, no hands!”
The greatest attribute of Snap’s Spectacles is the accessibility of going hands-free. As a known member of the Snapchat paparazzi, it’s important for me to able to quickly sneak a snap at every given moment of the day. You shouldn’t be constrained to the barrier of having to unlock your phone and open your app, only to find out you are too late. Capturing a snap with my Spectacles on is as easy as pressing a button.
Live bi-curiously through my experiences
Spectacles work best while you are in motion because the viewer feels as if they are in your shoes. Now I’m not as cool as a snowboarder bobbing and weaving down a mountain. But I did record my other anniversary gift of Marcus and I horseback riding through the La Verne mountain range. Many of my Snap messages that day were of how cool it was to view my snaps from the first person.
By the way, my phone was about 8 miles away from me (since we weren’t allowed to bring them) but my Spectacles still captured and saved my shots.
Everyone deserves desirable wearables
Besides having a functioning pair of video recording sunglasses, I’m happy to own a pair of sleek and stylish pair of video recording sunglasses. I believe Spectacles come in black, teal, and a hue of red that contains some pink
My only other reference for video recording glasses would be the first generation of Google Glass, which let’s be honest, aren’t an attractive look on anyone. They are glasses, but not fully committed to being glasses so in the end, you appear to be someone who’s wearing a broken pair. Thank you, Snap Inc., for making wearable tech that we actually would want to wear.
Energizer bunny power
One cool feature I didn’t know about was the chargeable case that comes with the Specs. That was a delightful surprise! I am notoriously known for never having my battery power on my phone and I had feared my Spectacles would suffer the same fate. But not only is there a USB charging cord for the actual glasses, there is also a charging port on the case, so while you are keeping your (Please read in Smeagle voice) precious safe you can also charge as well. Full power always!
The warranty statement that comes with the glasses does state something about battery overheating from too much charging, so I do try to avoid keeping it constantly charged for too long.
I certainly do not use my Spectacle daily. For me, if I’m not in motion or doing something that would be interesting from a person perspective then I just stick to my phone. It would be nice if they provided the customized option to create prescription glasses instead of just sunglasses. I’ve used mine while at a fun work event and felt silly about wearing sunglasses indoors. It would be less douchey if I wore them at night.
Overall I love my Spectacles and feel trendy for once with a social media and tech hardware item. When you connect your Specs to a phone it asks to “select an accessory,” so perhaps more items are on their way from Snap Inc.!
